Community Emergency Response Teams Train-The-Trainer (G-317)

EMHSD will host Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Train-the-Trainer courses across the state.  This two- day course will provide participants with the skills to teach the CERT program, while emphasizing the basic course along with the development of a program in their community.    Previous experience providing and facilitating instruction for adults is desirable.

* This is a course for CERT trainers and program managers-not for individuals desiring to become CERT team members.

Target Audience: Emergency managers or trainers knowledgeable of the CERT program who are committed to serve as an instructor in their community, and also willing to be listed on a statewide resource list of CERT instructors.  This includes experienced emergency responders who will be teaching specialized portions of the basic CERT Course, such as fire suppression, disaster medical aid, firefighting, EMS, search and rescue, or medical training along with others with disaster preparedness experience, and those who will manage or coordinate training CERT activities.

PEM Requirement: NO

Prerequisite: IS-317, Completion of Basic CERT Course

Suggested Courses: IS-22, IS-700, IS-230, IS-292

Days: 2

Cost: Students attending will be responsible for their own travel, meals, and lodging (if necessary).  Homeland Security Grant Program or Citizen Corps Grant funding may be used to support travel expenses for these courses as applicable.  Local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) classes for citizens will be conducted by local organizations in your community.

Many emergency management courses carry prerequisites.  These consist of Independent Study (IS) courses and/or EMHSD classroom courses.  You may download the IS courses at no cost through the Federal Emergency Management Agency at http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp or the Department of Homeland Security at https://hseep.dhs.gov .
