The Secondary Road Patrol and Traffic Accident Prevention program was created by Public Act 416 of 1978. The program is often referred to as the "SRP" or "416" program. This state grant program provides county sheriff departments with funding for patrol of county and local roads outside the corporate limits of cities and villages. The program has the legislated primary responsibility of traffic enforcement and traffic crash prevention.
