The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

The Michigan Citizen Corps program offers train-the-trainer courses that prepare local first responders (police, fire, and emergency management professionals) so they can instruct local citizens in emergency preparedness.  Local classes are held at varying times and places throughout the year.  Check with the local Citizen Corps Council closest to you for their class schedule.

Train-the-trainer classes

Train-the-trainer classes are conducted for volunteers who are willing to conduct CERT training for team members, emergency responders who will be teaching specialized portions of the basic CERT course, or individuals who have volunteers or professionals who have been selected to manage a CERT or coordinate CERT activities.
