Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21-years-old on or before the date they take the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Examination.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. A college education is not required, though it is recommended.
Applicants must be Michigan residents and have a valid Michigan driver's license prior to beginning recruit school. Michigan residency is not required to apply.
Applicants cannot have a felony conviction or be a suspect in case with the reasonable belief the applicant committed a felony.
Applicants must maintain a driving record free of suspension, revocation and moving violations for the two years prior to the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Examination and start of recruit school. View specific driving record criteria.
Applicants must meet the Michigan Commission On Law Enforcement Standards minimum hearing requirements as well as the department's Visual Acuity Standards.
