Official Statement: Response to Governor's Proposed FY 2013 Budget

Statement by Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, Director
February 9, 2012

Governor Snyder's proposed budget for the Department of State Police recommends a $47 million increase in general fund to support multiple facets of law enforcement, including forensic science, policing in distressed cities and an investment in aging law enforcement equipment.

I appreciate Governor Snyder's support of law enforcement and his acknowledgment of the important role public safety plays in reinventing our cities.

As Governor Snyder has said, it is unacceptable that four Michigan cities consistently appear among the nation's top 10 most violent.  The Michigan State Police looks forward to working alongside the governor to improve safety for our citizens.

Governor Snyder's proposed budget is the first step in a multi-step process and additional details on the department's budget will be unveiled in his Special Message on Public Safety in March.

Note: Additional details on the department's budget will not be released until after Governor Snyder's Special Message on Public Safety in March.
