Biometrics and Identification Division

  • The Biometrics and Identification Division (BID) utilizes cutting edge technologies to assist law enforcement agencies, primarily in the areas of criminal identification and polygraph. Biometric databases housed in BID include the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), Statewide Network of Agency Photos (SNAP), and Combined Offender DNA Indexing System (CODIS). BID also oversees forensic art, audio-video analysis, AMBER Alert, missing and unidentified persons coordination, and the photo lab and crime scene image repository.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division

  • The motor carrier officers of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) conduct road patrol activities focused on commercial vehicle enforcement. Additional responsibilities include conducting federal compliance reviews and investigations, school bus inspections, and conducting safety audits. CVED's Regulatory and Credentialing Section is responsible for insurance and safety regulations of intrastate for-hire motor carriers, as well as regulating rate and consumer protection of intrastate motor carriers of household goods.

Criminal Justice Information Center

  • The Criminal Justice Information Center (CJIC) is responsible for the administration of legislatively mandated programs and central repositories for criminal histories, sex offenders, pistol registrations, concealed pistol licenses, local case management, traffic crashes, and crime data.

  • The Eighth District consists of seven posts in 15 counties, encompassing the entire Upper Peninsula. The Negaunee Post is responsible for Marquette and Alger counties. The Sault Ste. Internal Control Coordinator

  • The Internal Control Coordinator evaluates the department's internal controls as it relates to programs, systems, and financial operations. This position coordinates audits, negotiates the resolution of audit findings, monitors corrective action plans, and represents the department to the Office of Auditor General, Office of Inspector General, Department of Technology, Management and Budget, and independent auditors.

Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards

Office of Behavioral Science

  • The Office of Behavioral Science serves members of the department, as well as the law enforcement community at large.   • The Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) acts as Michigan's primary traffic safety agency and administers state and federal highway safety-related grant programs with funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Michigan Truck Safety Fund, and the Secondary Road Patrol and Accident Prevention Program.
