State Police Commander Earns Homeland Security Master's Degree from Naval Postgraduate School

F/Lt. Chris Kelenske

LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue is pleased to announce that F/Lt. Chris Kelenske, commander of the MSP Field Support and Aviation Section, earned a Master of Arts degree in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) on Dec. 16, 2011.

During the 18-month online and in-residence program, Kelenske collaborated with homeland security officials from across the nation on current policy, strategy and organizational design challenges. He wrote a thesis on emergency responder personal/family preparedness for disasters and terrorist incidents.

Kelenske has served in numerous positions within the MSP, including at the Training Division, Lansing and State Capitol posts and the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division, where he served as the assistant commander of the Homeland Security/Infrastructure Analysis and Response Section. Currently, Kelenske oversees the Aviation Unit, Bomb Squad, Canine Unit, Underwater Recovery Unit, Emergency Support Team and State Capitol Security Unit.

Kelenske has a Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University. He resides in Holt with his wife Alison and their two sons.
