State Police Plans Multi-State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Operation

Contact: Sgt. Richard Roberts, MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (734) 384-5316
Agency: State Police

LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) motor carrier officers are organizing a three-day coordinated enforcement operation focusing on commercial vehicle crash reductionalong with law enforcement officers from the states of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. This multi-state effort will take place on June 17-19, and will include all counties along Michigan’s southern border.

During this multi-state initiative, officers will focus on violations by commercial vehicle drivers traveling on non-interstate routes. Officers will target violations that are likely to contribute to a crash including speed, following too closely and improper lane use. Equipment violations such as faulty brakes and tires will also be inspected as these may contribute to a commercial vehicle crash.

Multi-state commercial vehicle enforcement initiatives allow for neighboring states to align their resources to focus on traffic safety concerns. The MSP’s participation in these joint initiatives aims to increase the safety of those traveling on Michigan roads. Additional commercial vehicle initiatives are planned for later this summer.
