Health care coverage is available to individuals and families who meet certain eligibility requirements. The goal of these health care programs is to ensure that essential health care services are made available to those who otherwise do not have the financial resources to purchase them.

MIChild
MIChild is a health insurance program. It is for uninsured children of Michigan's working families. MIChild services are provided by many HMOs and other health care plans throughout Michigan.

Prescription price finder
As most consumers know, the prices of prescription drugs can vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has created a website to help the citizens of Michigan compare prices among pharmacies, since drug prices typically are not advertised or even displayed.

Maternal and Infants
Maternal and Infant Health Program services are specialized preventive services provided to pregnant women, mothers, and their infants to help reduce infant deaths and illnesses. Qualified health plans (QHPs) are required to provide Maternal and Infant Health Program services to their members when they are determined to be medically necessary.

WIC
WIC is a health and nutrition program that has demonstrated a positive effect on pregnancy outcomes, child growth and development. The program provides a combination of nutrition education, supplemental foods, breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care.

The Michigan Department of Human Services offers a range of family supports during times of transition, including:

Family Independence Program (FIP)
Cash assistance to eligible families with children and pregnant women who need temporary support.

Food Assistance Program:
Assistance with food purchasing for low-income families.

State Emergency Relief Program (SER)
Shelter costs and other essential items in emergency situations.

State Disability Assistance
Assistance to temporarily disabled adults without dependent children.

Medicaid (Medical Assistance or MA)
Medical care for low-income families and individuals.

Adult Medical Program (Adult Benefits Waiver)
Pays for basic outpatient medical care for low-income adults that do not qualify for Medicaid.

Child Development and Care Program (CDC)
Child care services for FIP recipients and qualifying low-income families.

Anyone in need of shelter, or anyone who knows of someone in need, can call 1-800-A-SHELTER, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round.
