Regional Profile

Region Two covers the area of northern Lower Peninsular, north of M-55, including counties: Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Emmet.

Traverse Bay Poverty Reduction Initiative, started in in 2002, has grown into a five-county public and private partnership to reduce poverty. The goal is to reduce poverty by 25 percent by 2010. In the Traverse Bay region, it is estimated that 13,294 individuals were living in poverty in 2003, representing 8.2 percent of the population. There were 2,244 people who homeless in Region II between July 2006 and June 2007.
