Region Five covers Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, Sanilac and Tuscola counties. Between July 2006 and June 2007, 2,781 people experienced homelessness.

According to the 2000 Census data, the percentage of people living below 200 percent of the federal poverty threshold in these counties are as follows:

  • Genesee - 28.9%
  • Huron - 30.4%
  • Lapeer - 17.9%
  • St. Clair - 21.9%
  • Sanilac - 31.5%
  • Tuscola - 26.8%

The unemployment rates are as follows:

  • Genesee - 10.8%
  • Huron - 9%
  • Lapeer - 8%
  • St. Clair - 11%
  • Sanilac - 10.2%
  • Tuscola - 10.2%
