Program Information: Early Head Start is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its mission is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, to enhance the development of very young children, and to promote healthy family functioning.
Grant Information: The Recovery Act funds competitive grants directly to Early Head Start agencies, and can be used to both expand programs an increase the number of families served in existing programs. Up to 10% of funds can be used for training, and up to 3% for monitoring. Funds will come through the Office of Head Start (an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families) for distribution through September 30, 2010.
