Total Funding Available: $300 million
Key Dates: Applications Due: May 6, 2009
Program Information: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) NCRR High-End Instrumentation Grant (HEI) program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase a single major item of equipment that costs at least $600,000 to be used for biomedical research. The maximum award is $8,000,000. Instruments in this category include, but are not limited to, structural and functional imaging systems, macromolecular NMR spectrometers, high-resolution mass spectrometers, cryoelectron microscopes and supercomputers.
Grant Information: The NCRR intends to commit approximately $160 million in FY2010 to fund approximately 40 new awards. Since the cost of the instruments varies, it is anticipated that the size of the award will also vary. Awards are for one year and for direct costs only; cost sharing is not required. NIH expects the funds to be expended within 18-24 months from the date of award. Eligible institutions include domestic non-profit organizations, public or private institutions such as universities, colleges and hospitals.
