Welcome to Michigan's online source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, represents the largest federal investment increase in America's roads, bridges and mass transit in 50 years. It also provides the most significant expansion in tax cuts for low and moderate income households ever. This aggressive economic recovery plan is designed to jumpstart our economy, create jobs, and help Americans struggling to provide for their families.

Total Funding Available: Total DOE funding for Phase 1 and 2 combined is expected to be limited to the amount appropriated, $1,321,765,000 for large-scale industrial CCS projects and $100,000,000 for innovative concepts for beneficial CO2 use projects, which will be split among all selected Recipients.

Award Information:  View Phase 1 Award Recipients

Key Dates: Applications Due: August 7, 2009
Completion of Phase 2 Activities: September 30, 2015

Program Information:  The Department of Energy (DOE) Fossil Energy program is developing a portfolio of technologies that can capture and permanently store greenhouse gases.

Grant Information:  DOE's Fossil Energy Program will administer a two-part competitive grant solicitation to fund:
(a) Large-scale industrial CCS projects, to demonstrate advanced technologies that capture and sequester CO2 emissions from industrial sources into underground formations or put to beneficial use.
(b) Innovative concepts for beneficial CO2 use, to demonstrate innovative concepts for beneficial CO2 use Large-scale industrial CCS projects: The objective is to demonstrate advanced technologies that capture and sequester CO2 emissions from industrial sources into underground formations or put to beneficial use.  Innovative concepts for beneficial CO2 use: The objective is to demonstrate innovative concepts for beneficial CO2 use, which include, but are not limited to, CO2 mineralization to carbonates directly through conversion of CO2 in flue gas or indirectly through capture of CO2 from air; use of CO2 from power plant or industrial applications to grow algae/biomass; or, conversion of the CO2 to fuels and chemicals.
