Welcome to Michigan's online source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, represents the largest federal investment increase in America's roads, bridges and mass transit in 50 years. It also provides the most significant expansion in tax cuts for low and moderate income households ever. This aggressive economic recovery plan is designed to jumpstart our economy, create jobs, and help Americans struggling to provide for their families.

National Institute of Standards and Technology Research Construction Grant - GRANT CLOSED

Total Funding Available: $120 million

Key Dates: Letter of Intent Due: June 25, 2009; 3 p.m. EDT
Applications Due: August 10, 2009; 3 p.m. EDT
Anticipated Award Announcement: February 2010

Note: Interested applicants who did not receive funding in the FY 2008 competition are encouraged to submit a Letter of Intent and full proposal for the FY 2009 competition. Decisions on unfunded FY 2008 proposals will not be made until after Letters of Intent for the new competition are due.

Program Information: The NIST construction grant funded by the Recovery Act will provide competitively-awarded grant funds for research science buildings through the construction of new buildings or expansion of existing buildings.

Grant Information: Grant proposals will be evaluated based on three criteria: 

  • Scientific and technical merit and the need for federal funding;
  • Design quality and suitability for the intended purpose; and
  • Management plan quality of the proposed project 

Grant evaluations also will be scored on how proposals meet the core objectives of the Recovery Act -- job creation and preservation, and investing in infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits.
