Welcome to Michigan's online source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, represents the largest federal investment increase in America's roads, bridges and mass transit in 50 years. It also provides the most significant expansion in tax cuts for low and moderate income households ever. This aggressive economic recovery plan is designed to jumpstart our economy, create jobs, and help Americans struggling to provide for their families.

Expansion of Infrastructure for Ethanol Blends - GRANT CLOSED

Total Funding Available: $8 million

Key Dates:   Applications Due: September 30, 2009; 11:59 p.m. EST

Program Information: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Biomass Program works with industry, academia, and national laboratory partners on research in biomass feedstocks and conversion technologies. Through research, development, and demonstration efforts geared toward the development of integrated biorefineries, the Biomass Program seeks to transform the nation's renewable and abundant biomass resources into cost competitive, high performance biofuels, bioproducts, and biopower.

Grant Information: The purpose of this DOE-administered grant is to increase the availability and use of potential ethanol blends, up to 85 percent ethanol. Two areas of interest have been identified to increase both the awareness and the use of ethanol blends for transportation.

  • Topic Area 1, Refueling Infrastructure for Ethanol Blends: DOE is seeking projects to expand the infrastructure at retail fueling locations to accommodate gasoline-ethanol blends. Expected projects may include modifications, upgrades or expansions of existing infrastructure at retail stations, or the installation of new equipment to accommodate blends of ethanol.
  • Topic Area 2, Education and Outreach for Ethanol Blends:  DOE is seeking projects which will increase public awareness of the benefits, safety, and use requirements of ethanol blends. Projects are sought which will present accurate, unbiased, factual information on ethanol to targeted audiences. Proposed projects will be expected to include detailed plans with identified metrics for measuring the effectiveness of the education effort.
