Welcome to Michigan's online source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, represents the largest federal investment increase in America's roads, bridges and mass transit in 50 years. It also provides the most significant expansion in tax cuts for low and moderate income households ever. This aggressive economic recovery plan is designed to jumpstart our economy, create jobs, and help Americans struggling to provide for their families.

Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) Grant - GRANT CLOSED

Total Funding Available: $245 million

Key Dates:  Applications Due: November 19, 2009

Program Information:  The SLDS grant is administered by the US Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences (IES); the IES mission is to provide rigorous evidence on which to ground education practice and policy.

Grant Information: IES will provide competitive grants to state educational agencies to design, develop, and implement statewide longitudinal data systems to capture student data from preschool to high school, college, and career.

To receive an SLDS grant, a data system must:

  • enable states to examine student progress and outcomes over time;
  • facilitate the exchange of data among agencies and institutions within the state and between states, allowing states to use data to inform policy and practice;
  • match students with the particular teachers primarily responsible for providing instruction in various subjects;
  • match teachers with information about their certification and teacher preparation programs;
  • easily generate data, including timely reporting to parents, teachers, and school leaders on the achievement of their students;
  • ensure the quality and integrity of data contained in the system;
  • enable the state to meet reporting requirements, especially reporting on the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund
