Welcome to Michigan's online source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, represents the largest federal investment increase in America's roads, bridges and mass transit in 50 years. It also provides the most significant expansion in tax cuts for low and moderate income households ever. This aggressive economic recovery plan is designed to jumpstart our economy, create jobs, and help Americans struggling to provide for their families.

Smart Grid Demonstration Grants - GRANT CLOSED

Total Funding Available:  $615 million

Award Information: View Smart Grid Demonstration and Energy Storage Projects Awards

Key Dates:  Applications Due: August 26, 2009

The purpose of this amendment is to issue the Smart Grid Demonstrations Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) in FINAL form. The FOA had previously been issued in DRAFT form on 04/16/2009 for potential applicants to submit questions and comments by 05/06/2009. DOE reviewed all of the questions and comments submitted during the comment period and utilized them, as appropriate, in creating this FINAL version of the FOA. This FINAL version of the FOA supersedes the DRAFT version of the FOA.

Program Information:  U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Smart Grid projects include regionally unique demonstrations to verify smart grid technology viability, quantify smart grid costs and benefits, and validate new smart grid business models, at a scale that can be readily adapted and replicated around the country.

Grant Information: DOE will award smart grid grants to support regionally unique demonstration projects to quantify smart grid costs, benefits and cost-effectiveness, verify smart grid technology viability, and validate new smart grid business models, at a scale that can be readily adapted and replicated around the country.  Smart grid technologies of interest include advanced digital technologies for use in planning and operations of the electric power system and the electricity markets such as microprocessor-based measurement and control, communications, computing, and information.  Projects to demonstrate energy storage technologies include battery storage for utility load shifting, wind farm diurnal operations, ramping control, frequency regulation services, distributed energy storage, compressed air energy storage, and development of promising energy storage technologies.

For More Information:  DOE is currently revising the FOA.  A draft version is available www.fedconnect.net, Funding Opportunity Number:  DE-FOA-0000036.  The final FOA will include all due dates and a funding announcement timeline.   DOE Smart Grid grant contact: Darlene Riggi, denise.riggi@netl.doe.gov
