Delivered by training providers (including community colleges, trade unions, and other training providers) competitively procured through Michigan Works!

  • Entrance Requirements
    • 18 years or older
    • High School Diploma or General Education Certificate (GED)
    • Valid driver's license
    • Pass a drug test
    • Pass a physical examination
    • WorkKeys scores of at least 3 in Applied Math, Reading, and Locating Information
    • Work Keys selected because of 1) remedial components such as WIN and KeyTrain; 2) assessment is portable and could be administered off-site at regional meetings; 3) use by the Department of Education to assess high school graduates; 4) administered by a number of Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs); and 5) will be the assessment used for a statewide career readiness certificate.
  • Training Duration
    • 8-weeks/240 hours (Time frame is sufficient to prepare students to enter into apprentice programs.)
  • Training Schedule
    • Monday - Friday/8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Includes 30-minute unpaid lunch and two 15-minute unpaid breaks.
  • Class Size
    • 15 - 20 students per class (Average class size for trade education and training.)
  • Attendance Requirements
    • More than 1 absence or 2 late arrivals result in expulsion from the program
  • Drug-Free Requirements
    • Failure to pass a random 10-panel drug test will result in expulsion from the program.
    • Individuals with negative test results but screens show trace substance amounts must undergo drug counseling.
  • Education/Training Supports
    • Needed to assist students effort to sustain participation in RCAR:
    • Training/Tuition cost
    • Training stipend
    • Transportation
    • Child care
    • Physical exam and lab tests
    • Supplies
    • Career counseling and follow-up services
  • Exit Requirements
    • Complete the 8-week/240 hours of RCAR training.
  • Certifications
    • RCAR Program Completion Certificate
    • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
      • Gold WorkKeys NCRC with WorkKeys scores of at least 5 in Applied Math, Reading, and Locating Information.
      • Silver WorkKeys NCRC with WorkKeys scores of at least 4 in Applied Math, Reading, and Locating Information.
      • Bronze WorkKeys NCRC with WorkKeys scores of at least 3 in Applied Math, Reading, and Locating Information.
  • CareerSafe (MIOSHA) Certificate
  • First Aid/ Cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( CPR)/ Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certificate
  • Placement Assistance
    • Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs) will assist in placing into road construction apprenticeships and jobs throughout the state.
    • The MWAs will continue to provide access to WorkKeys related remediation and testing to RCAR graduates.
