The Michigan Education Trust (MET) prepaid tuition program has achieved a major financial milestone by eclipsing $1 billion in assets.

"Since being introduced in 1988 as the nation's first prepaid tuition program, thousands of Michigan families have turned to MET to ensure their child has access to higher education," said State Treasurer Robert J. Kleine, Chair of the MET Board. "At the same time, sound investment strategies utilized by the MET Board, have allowed the program to strengthen its financial position and enhance public confidence in MET."

A MET contract locks-in tomorrow's tuition at today's rate for any of Michigan's public colleges and universities. Parents, grandparents and others can purchase a MET contract for a Michigan child by semester, up to four years (eight semesters) of education. Easy payment options are available, and the total MET contract price, including enrollment fees, qualifies for a Michigan income tax deduction. Several convenient payment options are available, including payroll deduction.

Open enrollment for MET runs through August 31, 2008, however, contracts purchased after Jan. 31, 2008 will carry slightly higher costs. Visit www.SETwithMET.com for enrollment information. Enrollments are accepted online or by mail.

Since its inception, well over 90 percent of high school graduates with MET contracts have gone on to attend a college or university. 15,206 students are currently using MET to attend college. For more information visit www.SETwithMET.com or call 1-800-MET-4-KID (800-638-4543).
