2015 Fostering Futures Scholarship Pizza Party on the Capitol Lawn Recap

Nearly 600 people attended the event and donated over $5,000 to help Michigan’s Foster Care students attend college through the Fostering Futures Scholarship, a MET Charitable Tuition Program. The event also had a presentation to MET by the Michigan Wireless Association of a check for $12,500 from a separate fundraising event and remarks by Treasurer Nick Khouri. A video of the presentation is available on the MET Facebook page.

In addition, 50 pillows and $150 in cash was collected for "The Pillow Effect,” part of the Michigan Youth Opportunities Initiative (MYOI) program. MYOI’s purpose is to ensure successful outcomes for young adults as they transition out of foster care in the areas of housing, education, employment, financial capability, health and wellness, permanency, social skills and community engagement. The project has expanded to include distribution to youth in Berrien, Calhoun, Clinton/Eaton, Ingham, Ionia/Montcalm, Jackson, Livingston and Macomb counties.

This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and we thank Hungary Howie’s Pizza who supplied the pizza and drinks for the party; Melting Moments Ice-Cream for providing the ice-cream; and Capital Mortgage Funding, Independent Bank and LAFCU for their financial support.
