Appointment made to Mackinac Island State Park Commission

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of William Marvin, of Mackinaw City, to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission.  

Formed in 1895, this commission oversees operations and maintenance of Mackinac State Historic Parks, which include Fort Mackinac, historic downtown Mackinac Island, Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, Mackinac Island State Park, Colonial Michilimackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, and the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park.   

"William is a great choice for this post," said Snyder. "His extensive knowledge of and experiences with Mackinac Island and the Mackinaw area will support the efforts of this important commission, and help maintain the wonderful Michigan landmarks that bring more than a million residents and visitors each year."

Marvin is retired from Michigan Bell, Ameritech and SBC, where he served in numerous positions, including director of management employment and placement and director of global markets, Michigan. Previously, he served on active duty as a second lieutenant with the U.S. Army Reserve for two years, and attended various military and corporate training schools. Marvin serves as president of the Mackinaw Area Historical Society and participates with the Mackinaw Area Chamber of Commerce. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University. Marvin will represent residents of Mackinaw City and replaces Jim Williams.

Marvin will serve a six-year term that expires April 12, 2018, and his appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
