Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to Controlled Substances Advisory Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced one new appointment and 12 reappointments to the state Controlled Substances Advisory Commission, which recommends actions to address identified problems of abuse.

“These talented professionals have unique backgrounds and skills in their specific fields and will greatly benefit the commission," Snyder said. "I am confident they will work hard to address this issue of substance abuse."

Appointed Member:

Patricia Roels, of Caledonia, is the chief oral health officer for Cherry Street Health Services, a federally qualified health center. She previously served in various roles at Cherry Street Health Services and in private practice. Roels holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a doctor of dental surgery, both from Indiana University. She will represent the Board of Dentistry and replaces William Wright.

Reappointed Members:

Jeff Westra is currently a grant coordinator with the Michigan Department of Corrections in the Office of Community Corrections. He previously served as a parole/probation agent with the department. Westra holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a specialization in human services counseling from Liberty University. He will continue to represent the general public. Westra is also reappointed to serve as chair of the commission.

Mohammed Arsiwala, of Novi, is the president/medical director of Michigan Urgent Care. He previously practiced in urgent care at Providence Hospital. He holds a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from Osmania University (India) and a medical doctorate from Wayne State University. He will continue to represent the Board of Medicine.

Gregory Cibor, of Canton, is a physician with Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at Providence Family and Athletic Medicine where he serves as the team doctor for Madonna University and the Plymouth Whalers. He previously worked at Botsford Primary Care Physicians and Spectrum Health/United Memorial Belding Family Care. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Kalamazoo College and a doctor of osteopathy from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent the general public.

Richard Dettloff, of Rockford, is a medical outcomes specialist for Pfizer. He is also adjunct faculty in the College of Pharmacy at Ferris State University, Michigan State University and Western Michigan University. He holds a bachelor of science in pharmacy from Ferris State University, and a doctor of pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati. He will continue to represent representatives of pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Kevan Kreitman, of Birmingham, is a physician and partner with Shores Podiatry Associates P.C. Previously, he operated private practices in southeast Michigan for more than 10 years. Kreitman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate in podiatric medicine from the Penn College of Podiatric Medicine. He will continue to represent the Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Lawrence Letsche, of Plymouth, is the owner of Remrock Farms Veterinary Hospital and brings than 25 years of veterinary experience to the board. He holds both a bachelor’s degree and doctor of veterinary medicine from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent the Board of Veterinary Medicine.

Nichole Penny, of Three Rivers, is a district pharmacy supervisor for Walgreens. She is a member of the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy Advisory Board and has served on several committees for the Michigan Pharmacists Association. Penny holds a bachelor’s degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy. She will continue to represent the Board of Pharmacy.

David Picone, of Mason, is the medical director of Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties, as well as an assistant clinical professor at Michigan State University. He has 24 years of experience in psychology and substance abuse. Picone holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Massachusetts and a doctor of osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He will continue to represent licensed health care professionals from the field of psychiatry.

Susan Sevensma, of Grand Rapids, is the director of medical education at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming. She previously served as the program director of the family practice residency at Metro Health Hospital and in private family practice. Sevensma holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Grand Valley State University and a doctor of osteopathy from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She will continue to represent the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery.

Jeffrey Steffey, of Grayling, is the director of pharmacy services at Mercy Hospital Grayling. He has practiced in retail, hospital and nuclear pharmacy with a significant component of practice in pain management including oncology, hospice, pain clinic and hospital. Steffey holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy with a specialty in nuclear pharmacy from Ferris State University and a master’s in business administration with a concentration in finance from Saginaw Valley State University. He will continue to represent the pharmacology profession.

Kim Szajna, of Sterling Heights, is a therapist for mental health and substance abuse counseling at Clinton Counseling Center as well as coordinator of the Health and Human Services Department at Macomb Community College. She is a licensed professional counselor and certified advanced addictions counselor. Szajna holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Wayne State University, a master’s degree in counseling from Oakland University and a certification in addiction studies from Oakland University. She will continue to represent the general public.

Kathy Bouchard-Wyant, of East Lansing, is a project coordinator for the Sparrow Physicians Health Network. She is a founding member of the Unit Based Council and is a nurse representative to the Perinatal Safety and Improvement Committee. Bouchard-Wyant holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Michigan State University and a certificate as a Registered Nurse from Hurley Medical Center School of Nursing. She will continue to represent the Board of Nursing.

Members will serve two-year terms expiring Aug. 30, 2015, and the appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
