Snyder makes appointments to State 9-1-1 Committee

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Donald Welch, of Ann Arbor, and the reappointment of Yvette Collins, of Lansing, to the State 9-1-1 Committee.
The 21-member committee, housed within the Michigan Department of State Police, promotes the successful development, implementation and operation of 911 systems throughout Michigan.
"Ensuring that Michigan's 911 systems operate properly and efficiently is a task of utmost importance," said Snyder. "I am confident that the commitment and expertise of these appointees will enable the committee to continue its outstanding mission of ensuring public safety."
Appointed:
Welch is president and CEO of Merit Network Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides network services to research and education communities throughout the state. Previously, he served in the U.S. Army for nearly 25 years and as director of enterprise technology and merchandising applications with H-E-B, one of the nation's largest independently owned food retailers. Welch holds a bachelor's degree in mechanics from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree and Ph.D. in computer science from California Polytechnic State University and the University of Maryland, respectively. He will represent the general public and replaces John Hunt.
Reappointed:
Collins is the Michigan legislative affairs area manager for AT&T. Previously, she served as an AT&T regulatory affairs manager and held numerous leadership positions with Ameritech, including operator services directory assistance group manager, operator services toll group manager and advertising services marketing assistant manager. Collins earned a bachelor's degree in management from Davenport University and will represent the commercial mobile radio service.
Appointees will serve two-year terms that expire Dec. 31, 2013, and their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
