Snyder makes appointments to Board of Cosmetology

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Linda Ward, of Big Rapids, and Scott Weaver, of Okemos, to the Michigan Board of Cosmetology.

The nine-member advises and assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in overseeing the cosmetology profession in Michigan.

“These appointees bring years of experience to the board and I am confident they will do great work in these important roles,” said Snyder.

Ward is a cosmetology instructor with the Mecosta Osceola Intermediate School District at the Mecosta Osceola Career Center. She develops and implements the cosmetology curriculum and maintains a 100 percent passing rate for the Michigan Cosmetology Licensing Exam.  Previously, she owned We Care Hair in Ishpeming and was an instructor at the Traverse Bay Area Career Tech Center.  Ward holds a certificate in cosmetology from Branch Area Career Center, a bachelor’s degree in trade, technical, and teacher education from Ferris State University, and is currently completing a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education. She will represent cosmetologists and replaces Andrea Blankinship.

Weaver is the president of Douglas J Management Co. LLC, where he has developed and led a team of salons and schools from a $1.6 million company to a $38 million organization. He serves as a member of the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and was named Entrepreneur of the Year in Education by the Greater Lansing Business Monthly Magazine.  Weaver holds a bachelor’s of business administration in marketing and management from Northwood University. He will represent cosmetologists and replace Edith Marshall.

Members serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2017, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
