Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan
WHEREAS, foster grandparent programs provide adults age 55 and older and on a limited income the opportunity to engage in challenging and meaningful volunteer service; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan is home to 19 foster grandparent programs that are making a difference in 59 counties throughout the state; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we join with the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging to recognize the positive impact of Michigan's foster grandparents; their nurturing, mentoring and overall efforts have contributed greatly to the lives of many children, and have helped strengthen our communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, January 25, 2012 as Foster Grandparent Volunteer Day in Michigan.
