Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan
WHEREAS, fathers who are actively engaged in the lives of their children reduce the risks of childhood poverty, child mental illness, juvenile delinquency, youth sexual activity, substance abuse and failure to complete high school; and,
WHEREAS, throughout their lives, children achieve greater success with social skills, academic performance and adult career and employment goals when they have fathers that remain actively involved; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we recognize Michigan's fathers that are active and positive role models in the lives of their children; we join with the Michigan Department of Human Services to encourage citizens throughout Michigan to learn more about fatherhood issues and to show support for the many individuals and organizations that provide advocacy efforts, resources and services to promote the positive involvement of fathers;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 2012 as Responsible Fatherhood Awareness Month in Michigan.
