Thursday, February 23, 2012: Conductive Education Day

WHEREAS, Conductive Education (CE) is a unique teaching method developed specifically for children and adults with symptoms of neuro-motor disorders such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, brain or spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis, stroke or Parkinson's disease; and,

 

WHEREAS, for children with neuro-motor disorders, even the smallest tasks, such as eating, buttoning a shirt or sitting in a chair can be monumental hurdles; and,

 

WHEREAS, CE is an active, cognitive approach to addressing the physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs of the student, and works to assist each individual in becoming more physically and emotionally independent; and,

 

WHEREAS, CE helps to ensure an opportunity for increased mobility, strength, problem-solving skills, confidence and self-esteem, and on this day, we raise awareness of conductive education as a treatment and educational model for people living with neuro-motor disorders throughout Michigan;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, February 23, 2012 as Conductive Education Day in Michigan.
