WHEREAS, Michigan's trail system is a low cost means of helping to improve citizen health and reduce health care costs; trail related activities include hiking, walking, snowmobiling, running, biking, horseback riding, paddling, and use of off-road vehicles; and,
WHEREAS, trails help support the quality of life within communities, and provide opportunities for solitude and relaxation, or fun with family and friends; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to encourage citizens to learn more about Pure Michigan's vast and varied network of trails;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 23 through Saturday, September 29, 2012 as Michigan Trail Week.
