November 2011: Long-Term Care Awareness Month

Date:  November 01, 2011  -  November 30, 2011
Time:  All Day Event
WHEREAS, long-term care consists of a variety of medical and non-medical services to help meet the health or personal needs of ill, disabled or elderly citizens; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan's Medicaid program covers long-term care benefits including nursing facility services, home- and community-based waiver services, personal care services, private duty nursing and hospice; and,

WHEREAS, citizens age 60 and older represent 18 percent of Michigan's total population, and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the state's population of citizens age 65 and older will increase by nearly 70 percent by 2030; and,

WHEREAS, as Michigan's aging population grows at an unprecedented rate and continues to live longer than at any time in our history, we raise awareness of long-term care matters in Michigan and encourage citizens to recognize the importance of planning for future health care needs;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 2011 as Long-Term Care Awareness Month in Michigan.
