1,000 New Jobs and $100 Million Expansion at Jackson National in Lansing

Michigan received some great news this week with the announcement of a $100 million expansion at Jackson National Life Insurance Company in Lansing, bringing 1,000 new jobs to the area.

Michael Wells, president and CEO, explained what the expansion means for the company:

Jackson has called mid-Michigan home for the past 52 years and we owe much of our success to the support of the surrounding community and the people who have made Jackson what it is today.

This expansion allows us to continue to invest in Lansing and Michigan, as well as in our dedicated, talented associates. Our associate base has doubled in size since we opened this building in 2000 and I am confident this project will enable us to continue to expand our footprint in the financial services industry nationally. Through this growth, Jackson and its employees will have the opportunity to make an even larger impact on local charitable organizations with corporate giving and volunteer time.

Governor Rick Snyder attended a ceremony on Tuesday celebrating the company's announcement. Snyder said that the expansion, which was made possible in part by state-based tax incentives, is an example of people working together to reinvent Michigan.

This is about a private-public partnership of how we all work together. And this is the Michigan of the future, about reinventing our state.

If you stop and think about where we were in 2009 or the last decade, we were at the bottom and we didn't work together the way we needed to.

It's having that new spirit of applying the basic principles of relentless positive action, no blame, no credit, let's solve our problems and move forward. We're making great projects happen.

In an interview on MichiganAdvantage.org, Wells explains that Jackson's commitment to the Lansing community and its history of growth in Michigan.

The company moved to Lansing in 1976. Since opening our current main campus in Lansing in 2000, we have more than doubled our Michigan workforce. As we have continued to grow, we have really immersed ourselves in the community. Giving back is part of our core values here and we believe it’s our role as a thriving business in the community to offer support to a wide variety of local charity organizations to make Michigan a better place for everyone.
