Let's Remember What Independence Day Is All About

By Governor Rick Snyder | July 03, 2014

This Independence Day, as we celebrate with family and friends, let's remember what this day is all about.

It's about America's independence and the freedoms we enjoy.

That's important for us in Michigan. And we celebrate on the Fourth because we don't take those freedoms for granted.

We're also grateful for the women and men of the armed forces. They risk their lives to protect our freedoms, and we thank them for their service.

As Michiganders, we can trace our roots all over the world. Some are new to the state. Others have been here for generations. Together, we salute the same flag, and we celebrate Independence Day.

Michigan is a great state with beautiful lakes and rivers. We have talented people. And we live in a remarkable country that we're proud to call home.

So this July Fourth, let's celebrate our great country with friends and family, be safe, and enjoy a Pure Michigan weekend.
