Agency: Natural Resources

December 20, 2007

The Department of Natural Resources has announced that new Global Positioning System (GPS) quality snowmobile trail maps have recently been posted on the department's Web site.

The GPS snowmobile trail maps along with other snowmobile program information can be viewed at the DNR's Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr, click on Recreation and Camping, and then on Snowmobiling.

"These maps are a significant improvement over previous maps and accurately represent the current 6,546 miles of state designated snowmobile trails," said Jim Radabaugh, DNR's state trails coordinator.

The 6,546 mile designated snowmobile trail system is a statewide network of signed and groomed trails that extends from the southern border of Michigan, up the west side of the Lower Peninsula and throughout the Northern Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula.

According to snowmobile industry estimates, snowmobiling in Michigan creates a $1 billion economic impact and more than 6,400 jobs.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
