Oct. 6, 2008

An organization has stepped forward to increase the reward for information Department of Natural Resources officials are seeking related to the possible poaching of a wolf. The incident is reported to have taken place during the 2007 firearm deer season in Central Location, a village in Keweenaw County.

Defenders of Wildlife, an organization dedicated to protecting endangered species, has offered an additional $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of the wolf. The DNR's Report All Poaching (RAP) program is offering a $500 reward as well.

Information was provided to the DNR Law Enforcement Division detailing the alleged illegal killing of a wolf by a deer hunter who was startled by the wolf.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call the DNR's Report All Poaching hotline at 800-292-7800, or contact a local DNR conservation officer. Information can be provided anonymously. An online form to report poaching violations is available on the DNR's Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr under the Law Enforcement menu.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
