Fruitport Nurse has License Summarily Suspended

Contact:  James McCurtis (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

June 1, 2009

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the registered nurse and practical nurse licenses of Carl David Payne, R.N., L.P.N., based on his conviction in the 20th Judicial Circuit Court, Ottawa County, Michigan. Payne, 42, failed to report his conviction to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.

On Dec. 15, 2008, Payne was convicted of identity theft, a felony. As a result, Payne was placed on probation with terms for a period of one year and ordered to pay fees, fines and costs totaling $970.00.

On May 21, 2009, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Payne's licenses pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Payne's licenses.

For more information on disciplinary actions taken by the health professional licensing boards within MDCH, please go to http://www.michigan.gov/mdch, and click on Health Systems and Licensing.
