Lt. Governor Cherry's Statement on Passing of Former Michigan State AFL-CIO President Frank Garrison

Contact:  Ben Kohrman 517-335-1589

June 17, 2009

LANSING - Lt. Governor John D. Cherry, Jr. today issued the following statement on the passing of Frank Garrison, former president of the Michigan State AFL-CIO:

"Working people in Michigan have lost a great leader.  Frank Garrison passionately believed in the labor movement.  He saw organized labor as a social movement, a means to help all working men and women achieve better lives for themselves and their families.  Frank was a great strategist and ally, and we fought many political and legislative battles together.  But family and friends were most important to Frank, and I'm proud to have been a friend.  My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Dora and the rest of the Garrison family."
