July 1, 2009 - Michigan Department of Energy Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG) Director Stanley "Skip" Pruss announced today that three public service stations were awarded $15,000 in incentives to convert refueling equipment to provide ethanol (E85) fuel. These incentives continue the effort to increase the availability of bio-based, renewable transportation fuels across Michigan.
"Michigan is committed to increasing the opportunities motorists have to fuel their vehicles with clean burning, renewable, Michigan-based alternative fuels like E85," Pruss said. "This effort will lead to a healthier, more diverse economy; a stronger agricultural sector and cleaner air for everyone" he added.
Service station owners receiving the incentives have agreed to complete their installation and begin dispensing E85 to the public by August 1, 2009. The following stations are receiving incentives:

Orchard Fuels, Inc. - ($5,000), Orchard Lake

Sunoco 696-Van Dyke, Inc. - ($5,000), Warren

Sylvan Mobil Mart - ($5,000), Sylvan Lake
Funding for the E85 Infrastructure Conversion Incentive Program will end soon. Service station owners interested in applying for the incentive will need to complete the application process and be dispensing E85 by August 1. For more information or to apply for the incentives, service station and public fleet owners can contact the Clean Energy Coalition in Ypsilanti.
Station owners that convert existing refueling equipment and/or install new systems to provide ethanol (E85) or biodiesel (B5 or higher) fuels to the public can also apply for a state tax credit. The tax credit is 30% of eligible costs up to a maximum amount of $20,000. To obtain the tax credit, the station owner must apply for a certificate of eligibility from the DELEG, Bureau of Energy Systems.
