The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will meet on Thursday, July 9, in Lansing. The commission will meet at the Lansing Center, located at 333 E. Michigan Ave. in downtown Lansing. All meetings are open to the public.
Prior to the full business meeting, certain policy committees of the commission will meet. All meetings are open to the public.
At 10:15 a.m., the NRC Policy Committee on Technology, Information, Marketing and Education will meet in Room 202. The committee will receive an update on the Information Services and Educational Services sections of the DNR Office of Communications, an update from the Recruitment/Retention Section of the Office of Communications, an update on the DNR Accessibility Advisory Council and discuss future committee goals.
At 12:30 p.m., the NRC Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will meet in Room 202. The committee will discuss proposed regulation changes for waterfowl season and falconry, discuss antlerless deer quotas and license fees, and receive an update on invasive species.
At 2 p.m., the NRC will meet to consider an appeal on the Department of Natural Resources' denial of a special watercraft control ordinance for the city of Keego Harbor.
At 3 p.m., the NRC Committee of the Whole will meet in Room 201 to discuss the action items before DNR Director Rebecca Humphries on the meeting agenda, receive a legislative update, and to discuss the forest road closure process and conservation easements.
Public appearances before the commission begin at 4:30 p.m. Persons wishing to make public comments to the NRC should sign up with Teresa Gloden, executive assistant to the commission, by calling 517-373-2352 or e-mailing her at glodent@michigan.gov. Persons also can contact Gloden at the meeting site to sign up to speak during public appearances.
At 5 p.m., there will be a special presentation of the Partner in Conservation Award to the Michigan State University Extension.
Action items being considered by the NRC at this meeting include antlerless deer quotas, managed waterfowl area and special waterfowl regulations, and a technical amendment on dog training rules. Action items before DNR Director Humphries include an order to regulate snowmobile use at Bay City State Recreation Area; an order to regulate use of the Plainwell No. 2 Dam in Allegan County; an order to regulate use of managed state game areas and wildlife areas; a proposed nonmetallic mineral (potash) lease auction for Gladwin, Isabella, Midland, Missaukee, Ogemaw, Osceola, Roscommon and Wexford counties; six direct oil and gas leases (nondevelopment) in Otsego County; and authorization for several land transactions.
