ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Monday, July 13, 2009
ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Friday, Aug. 21, 2009
PROJECT: In cooperation with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will be installing weigh-in-motion devices on US-2 between the Michigan Welcome Center in Ironwood and the Wisconsin state line at the Montreal River. The project, funded by WisDOT, involves removing and replacing 200 feet of roadway, both eastbound and westbound, for the installation of devices to weigh commercial vehicles.
As part of the project, Northwestern University will install an innovative structural monitoring system on the nearby US-2 bridge. The combined devices will allow engineers to monitor how speeds and commercial vehicle weights affect the bridge components.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: This work will require a single lane closure in both the eastbound and westbound directions.
For up-to-date information on this project, go to the list of statewide lane closures at: www.michigan.gov/drive.
CUSTOMER BENEFIT: When this project is completed, the sensors placed in US-2 will help engineers ensure motorist safety.
MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
