BACKGROUND: Through the efforts of Rep. Stupak, Sens. Levin and Stabenow, Gov. Granholm, and Sen. Prusi, the Alger County Road Commission will finally be able to complete paving of this route connecting Munising and Grand Marais, through the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The project is 80 percent funded by Federal High Priority Funds, and 20 percent from the Michigan Local Jobs Today program. Local Jobs Today included more than $6 million in local match dollars for the Upper Peninsula, and leveraged nearly $36.3 million in investments in the region, bringing with it 654 local jobs. The Local Jobs Today program is part of Gov. Granholm's comprehensive economic plan to create jobs and grow Michigan's economy.
