Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

July 17, 2009 - Director Stanley "Skip" Pruss announced today that the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG) is now interacting and sharing information with citizens on multiple social media platforms.

DELEG has currently built a presence on popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube increasing the availability, accessibility and transparency of Department information. Consumers can look forward to updates on current issues, press announcements, photos, answers to frequently asked questions or concerns and awareness information.

"Recently DELEG used social media tools to promote the Green Today, Jobs Tomorrow conference and it was hugely successful with a sell-out crowd of 1,400 participants. We've found social media to be a great tool for networking with our partners, including business, labor, education, community and government leaders and workers," said Pruss.

To become a fan or follower of DELEG's activities, please follow the links at www.michigan.gov/deleg or the State of Michigan's Social Networking webpage http://michigan.gov/som/0,1607,7-192-53658-215141--,00.html. For direct access to DELEG on Twitter (www.twitter.com/MIDELEG) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/MIDELEG) simply paste the URL's provided into your web browser. Registered Facebook users can also view DELEG's Fan page directly at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Michigan-Department-of-Energy-Labor-Economic-Growth-DELEG/94897251533?ref=ts&__a=1.

Other DELEG affiliates such as the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, the Michigan Insurance Consumer Advocate, Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Green Today, Jobs Tomorrow initiative can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.

"We encourage citizens to sign up today so we can interact on daily basis about issues that impact their lives. Social networking is changing how we connect with the citizens of Michigan," Pruss said.

DELEG promotes economic growth and job creation in Michigan by centralizing and streamlining all of the state's renewable energy, workforce and economic development functions under one umbrella. DELEG oversees the licensing and regulation of more than 1.2 million individuals & entities in Michigan on an annual basis. The department also assists Michigan citizens - including the unemployed and the displaced, as well as people with disabilities - with the education and training they need to secure good paying jobs available and in-demand today as well as tomorrow.
