July 23, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is expected to reopen M-36 at Pettys Road in Hamburg Township late on Friday, July 24 - three days ahead of schedule. The roadway was shut down on Tuesday, July 14, for pavement repairs and was expected to reopen on Monday, July 27. However, the contractor, Pamar Enterprises of New Haven, was able to reopen M-36 earlier than expected.

"This is great news for the community and for motorists who use M-36 on a daily basis," said MDOT Brighton Transportation Service Center Manager Mark Geib. "We were glad we were able to work with all parties involved to find a workable solution for the closure of M-36. To open the roadway even earlier than expected is a bonus for everyone."

Once the roadway reopens, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained on M-36 for the remainder of the project. The project involves adding a center-turn lane, along with intersection improvements. Traffic on Pettys Road will be maintained at all times.

All work on this $920,000 project is expected to be completed in late August, prior to the beginning of the school year.

In addition to this project, a second project is scheduled to begin next week on M-36 that involves reconstructing the Great Lake Central Railroad crossing. To facilitate this work, M-36 will be closed for three days starting Monday, July 27. The roadway is expected to reopen by Thursday, July 30. The same detour will be used for this closure that was used for the M-36 closure at Pettys Road.
