WHAT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to attend any one of two meetings regarding road and bridge improvements on I-475 in Genesee County.

This project will include reconstructing I-475 from I-75 to Bristol Road, reconstructing the Hill Road interchange ramps, pavement repairs from Bristol Road to I-69, rehabilitation of the Hill Road bridge, along with the I-475 bridges over Maple and Bristol roads. The bridge work includes deck repairs, railing replacements, and widening I-475 over Maple Road.

Interested residents are invited to stop by anytime during the open house- style meetings to view displays and learn more about the proposed bridge replacement. The purpose of these improvements is to enhance mobility and increase safety within the construction area. Public input is sought to help MDOT recognize and address any concerns. MDOT staff members and contractor representatives will be available to answer questions.

BACKGROUND: The $26.4 million project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and classified under a special "design/build" category, meaning that the contractor bids on the project with limited design documents, hires an engineering consultant to finish the plans, and builds as the project design progresses.

Lane and ramp closures will be in effect on I-475, along with local road closures for the duration of this project. A detour will be in effect to accommodate access to local destinations along I-475.

Crews are scheduled to begin work on the I-475 corridor next spring, during the 2010 construction season. Work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2010.

MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
