Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:     

Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812

Robert A. Bury of Grosse Pointe Park, executive director and chief executive officer of the Detroit Historical Society, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

David C. Hales of Farmington Hills, social studies consultant for the Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Molly A. Luempert-Coy of Saline, regional manager of DTE Energy, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

James A. McConnell of Livonia, special projects director and news editor of the Michigan Council for History Education, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

The Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is charged with encouraging, planning, and developing activities, events, programs, observances, and services appropriate to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812; enlisting the support of private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities in the planning and promotion of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812; encouraging private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities to organize and participate in War of 1812 bicentennial activities; and researching and promoting the development of cultural, historical, and economic development opportunities relating to the War of 1812 in connection with the War of 1812 bicentennial.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

State Historical Records Advisory Board

Francis X. Blouin, Jr., Ph.D. of Ann Arbor, director of the Bentley Library at the University of Michigan, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Patrice R. Merritt of Detroit, executive director of The Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

The State Historical Records Advisory Board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and for National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)-funded projects in the state.  The Board acts as a coordinating body to facilitate cooperation and communication among historical records repositories and information agencies within the state, and as a state-level review body for grant proposals that meet NHPRC grant program guidelines.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

State Historic Preservation Review Board

Scott G. Beld, Ph.D. of Whitmore Lake, research laboratory specialist for the University of Michigan Museum of Paleontology, is reappointed to represent prehistoric archeology for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Carolyn S. Loeb, Ph.D. of Lansing, associate professor of Michigan State University Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, is reappointed to represent architectural history for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Jennifer L. Radcliff of Clarkston, owner of Preservation Advantage consulting firm, is reappointed to represent preservation for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

The State Historic Preservation Review Board is responsible for providing advice to the Michigan's State Historic Preservation Office and the Department History, Arts and Libraries on the full range of Historic Preservation Fund-supported activities, as well as reviewing and making recommendations on National Register nomination proposals.  The board also participates in the review of appeals of National Register nominations.

These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee

Timothy Andrews of Sault Ste. Marie, owner of Andrews Beef Farm, is reappointed to represent cattle growers for a term expiring May 31, 2012.

The Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee represents over 14,000 farm families involved in the production, raising and feeding of beef and dairy cattle, and is charged with promoting the sale of beef and beef products. 
 
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
