July 31, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced a $1.15 million investment to realign and make improvements to numerous local streets that cross under the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. The project will improve local traffic movement and allow for the installation of additional security enhancements for the Blue Water Bridge.
Scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 3, State Street will be closed from Gratiot Avenue to Thomas Edison Parkway so crews can install a curve to connect State Street directly with Gratiot Avenue. In addition, Gratiot Avenue will be closed Hancock Street to State Street with detours posted for each closure. Access to the Thomas Edison Inn, Bistro 1882, and the Train Depot Museum will be maintained at all times during construction.
Elsewhere, Forest and Armour streets will become cul-de-sacs prior to the Blue Water Bridge. Elmwood Street will be closed so crews can realign and pave the road between Gratiot Avenue and Wright Street. A detour will be posted for Elmwood Street.
All these improvements are expected to be completed by late October. This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
