The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will meet on Thursday, Aug. 13, in Lansing. The commission will meet at the Lansing Center, located at 333 E. Michigan Ave. in downtown Lansing. All meetings are open to the public.
Prior to the full business meeting, certain policy committees of the commission will meet. All meetings are open to the public.
At 10 a.m., the NRC Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will meet in Room 202. The committee will review information on groundwater protection and use in Michigan, receive an update on revisions to fisheries orders and trout regulations, review proposed changes to waterfowl regulations and receive an update on wolf regulations.
At 12:30 p.m., the NRC Policy Committee on Land Management will meet in Room 202. The committee will discuss several forestry issues related to timber sales in state forestlands, including an update on sale bids, minimum bid calculation and no bid species.
At 2 p.m., the NRC will meet in Room 201 to consider an appeal on the Department of Natural Resources' denial of a request from the City of Traverse City for permits to expand swim areas and place "no boat" buoys.
At 3 p.m., the NRC Committee of the Whole will meet in Room 201 to discuss the action items before DNR Director Rebecca Humphries on the meeting agenda, receive a legislative update, to review the DNR's spend plan and quarterly revenue report, to receive updates on the State Park Passport legislation and the Governor's Executive Order to eliminate the Department of History, Arts and Libraries and its impact on the DNR, and a discussion on criteria for closure of state forest campgrounds.

At 5 p.m., there will be a special presentation of the Partner in Conservation Award to Jay's Sporting Goods.
Action items being considered by the NRC at this meeting include approving the 2010 NRC meeting dates, two proposed state forest trail acquisitions, regulation changes for waterfowl and other migratory bird hunting and proposed changes to falconry regulations. Action items before DNR Director Humphries include two direct oil and gas leases (nondevelopment) in Otsego County; closure of certain forest roads in Alger, Marquette, Midland, Schoolcraft and Roscommon counties; and authorization of several land transactions.
