Bridge rehabilitation underway in Muskegon County

LOCATIONS: Fruitport Road over I-96 and Russell Road over US-31

CLOSEST CITIES: Fruitport and North Muskegon

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Monday, May 24, 2010

PROJECT: Work is underway to rehabilitate two bridges in Muskegon County, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). This includes deck resurfacing, structural repairs, bearing realignment and approach work. This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Two-way traffic will be maintained on Fruitport and Russell roads utilizing temporary traffic signals and lane shifts. Single-lane and shoulder closures will be in effect on I-96 and US-31 with no closures taking place from 4 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. To minimize traffic from Michigan's Adventure, the Russell Road bridge project will start next spring.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: Motorists will benefit from the smoother ride surface and the increased service life of the bridges.
