The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today said it has approved the contract that designates APX, Inc. as the state's administrator of the Renewable Energy Credit and Tracking Program and the Advanced Cleaner Energy Credit Certification and Tracking Program.
The contract was entered into between the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth and APX on July 17.
Called the Michigan Renewable Energy Certification System (MIRECS), the program will provide a means to track credits for Michigan's renewable energy standard, encourage clean energy generation at lower costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Michigan.
Specifically, APX's Web-based infrastructure will create, track and enable trading of environmental credits through a unique, traceable digital certificate issued for every megawatt-hour of qualifying energy generated by facilities registered with MIRECS or imported into MIRECS. It is expected to be launched in mid-October.
Public Act 295 of 2008 requires the MPSC to establish both a renewable energy credit certification and tracking program and an advanced cleaner energy credit certification and tracking program.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
