The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today granted a request by Consumers Energy Company seeking a rehearing in cases involving its renewable energy (RE) and energy optimization (EO) plans for its electric division and its EO plan for its natural gas division.
The company on June 22 filed a petition for rehearing of the MPSC's May 26 order that approved the utility's REP and EO plans.
The Commission, in today's order, granted the petition for rehearing, noting the need for clarification and the unintended consequences resulting from compliance with the May 26 order. On June 26, the MPSC granted Consumers Energy's request to lower its EO surcharge for certain commercial customers because of unintended consequences on those customers.
The MPSC is reopening the record in this case to take evidence on the utility's request to increase certain energy optimization plan surcharges and increase and decrease certain renewable energy plan surcharges. The company has until Sept. 11 to file testimony in support of its proposals; other parties may file testimony on these issues by Oct. 12. Rebuttal testimony is due no later than Oct. 26. The administrative law judge in the case will hold a one-day hearing at 9 a.m. on Nov. 12 at the MPSC's office in Lansing. All parties may submit a brief, on these issues only, no later than Nov. 27. In the interest of time, the Commission will dispense with the proposal for decision and read the record.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
