Agency: Natural Resources

Aug. 12, 2009

The Department of Natural Resources announced today that the Twin Lakes Boating Access Site located in Luce County will be closed temporarily for construction repairs, beginning Thursday, Aug. 13.

Site repairs will include the removal of approximately 3,600 square feet of paving, undercut to a depth of two feet below the paved surface, followed by installation of geo-textile fabric, adequate drainage, compact sand and gravel, and two courses of one and one-half inches of pavement. One culvert will be removed and reset, and four minor paved areas will be repaired.

Site repairs are expected to take eight days to complete, subject to rain delays. The site will be closed through Aug. 21 for safety reasons during construction.

There are no alternate launch sites on Twin Lakes. Boaters are encouraged to use other nearby lakes during this time period. Visit www.mcgi.state.mi.us/MRBIS for information on alternate access sites in the state of Michigan.

This project is funded through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, a restricted fund derived from boat registration fees and a portion of the Michigan marine fuel tax for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities, harbors and inland waterways.

For more information or updates about this project, contact James Hooker, the Newberry Field Office manager, at (906) 293-5131, ext. 4021, or Gary Ellenwood, the Newberry District supervisor, at (906) 293-5131, ext. 4020.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
